Watching a Classic
Zach and I took a blast in the past by watching the critically acclaimed film, 12 Angry Men. This movie was produced from 1957 and was much different than some of the earlier movies we saw in our project, particularly the raunchy comedy Neighbors. Something pretty interesting that Zach and I discussed before the movie was the mindset of a critic knowing that he or she is going to watch a classic and well received movie. I have heard of 12 Angry Men before and know that movie critics and audiences alike have given it spectacular reviews. It's stop yourself from looking at why everyone thinks that it's such a great film. However, a true movie critic must let go of what they've heard and provide an objective review of the film they are watching. I think that is a pretty important lesson in this business, that you have to provide your own opinion, even if that means going against the grain. I found some things about that movie that I wasn't too fond of, though I also saw why the movie has been so well received for all these years. Overall, I think I did a pretty good job of not letting others opinions, even famed movie critics such as Roger Ebert, influence my opinion.
